This high quality Australian power catamaran is exported to the US as the AussieCat 200.
To a degree LeisureCat's are to the west coast what NoosaCat's are to the east coast, and their popularity over there, and internationally, has meant they haven't had to advertise all that much. For this reason we unfortunately haven't seen them in many of the 'pay-to-feature' boating publications. The downside is many on the east coast may not have heard of this fantastic Australian made range of boat.
The LeisureCat range are essentially designed as high-speed planing catamarans capable of delivering a comfortable and stable ride in adverse weather conditions. The hull shape is totally innovative, coupling a full-length wavebreaker and reverse chine planing strakes to deliver a catamaran that carries an exceptional payload, is easily driven, and provides a safe and stable ride in all conditions. In non performance turns they turn flat, and in high performance turns they lean in, as opposed to the strange sensation of 'leaning out' like some other makes of power catamarans.
In this instance we'll introduce the proven and popular LeisureCat 6000 Islander, which is designed for the serious day fisherman, with walk-around decks that include two forward platforms for fly-fishing.
The deck is fully moulded with a raised cockpit coaming and moulded side pockets forward and aft. Either side of the rear walk-through door are built-in fish / bait box and a storage box which can be fitted out as a live-bait tank.
A forward lounge seat has a hinged top with stowage under. An optional removable dual seat for helmsman and passenger is also available.
There are moulded recesses for fire extinguisher and EPIRB to keep these necessities from catching unwary legs.
The standard full-length wave-breaker and in-hull engine pods (as opposed to bolt on units) ensure a soft, dry ride.
Fitted with twin 90hp Honda 4-stroke engines, the test model raced across an offshore chop at 35 knots. As always, layout can be customized to suit your needs.
